This page describes the intercom conversation feature.
Conversation is often a function for making one-on-one calls, but it is a good idea to have some patterns in mind for your design.

Handset use or Hands-free

Picture
This is the difference between making a call using a handset and calling without holding anything.
Hands-free is convenient for users, but it doesn't work well in noisy environments, or if what you're saying requires confidentiality, a handset is needed.

Full Duplex or Half Duplex

Even though it may seem like both parties are talking at the same time, there are two types of communication.
Full Duplex
In full duplex, communication on both sides is completely independent, allowing communication from right to left and left to right at the same time. For example, Two people can have a smooth conversation, and two people can even sing together.

Hands-free full duplex is the most technically demanding method.

Half Duplex
Communication is only possible from right to left or left to right. It is used while switching communication in both directions. In many cases, a voice switch gives priority to the loudest communication. Half duplex is used when full duplex is difficult under noisy conditions.

Sequential Response or Selective Response

This is a difference in how master station receive calls when receiving calls from multiple other stations.
Sequentinal Response

- Receive on a first-come-first
- Waiting stations are automatically connected sequentially as soon as the current call ends.
- For systems with many master stations
Selective Response

- Select recipients

- For systems with many Door/Substation

Other Response Function
Camp-on (Waiting)
This is a feature that allows user to wait while another call is in progress. Whether it can wait a long time or be automatically disconnected after a certain amount of time depends on system and settings.
