This page explains the connections between each device using the simplest system as an example.
Connecting equipment
Microphones and sound source devices are connected to a mixer and the sound is combined into one sound. This sound signal is split in a separation section and amplified by an amplifier (AMP) to drive the speaker (SP).
This is the basic system structure, and this structure also exists in various forms of products.
The range of functions included differs depending on the product, but in any case, when trying to amplify voices or sound sources with SP, a system like the one shown above will be configured.
Separation by Signal level
The inside of the system can be divided into three parts depending on the level of the audio signal.
MIC level: -60dBV to -30dBV Shown as purple line
The microphone output level is very low and is susceptible to noise. It should be amplified to line level at an early stage.
LINE level: -20dBV to 1.8dBV (4.0dBu) Shown as blue line
Many areas within the system transmit audio signals at this level. Mixing and signal processing takes place at this level.
SP level: LoZ and HiZ (25V, 70V, 100V line) Shown as red line
This is the level after being amplified by AMP and can drive SP.
Of course, it can be converted into dB, but in the case of HiZ (High Impedance), it is usually expressed as 25V line, 75V line, 100V line.
In the case of LoZ (low impedance), it varies depending on the AMP capacity and SP capacity.
For HiZ/LoZ, refer this page.
Since the level at which devices can be connected is determined, it is important to understand the level.
